The purpose-built Administrative Building was in operation from the third quarter of 2001. The Community Services Administration office led by the Community Director handle all matters pertaining to administration, housing, maintenance, transportation, community services contracts and clubs (which includes sporting and recreation activities). The office operates from the Administration Block.
Apart from the Community Services offices, the building houses a warehouse, a fully-fledged post office, a fully-fledged bank with an ATM machine (accessible 24 hours a day) and a supermarket. Laundry and dry cleaning services are also available at the supermarket. Residents have access to a very efficiently managed maintenance service. The township enjoys the service of an audio and video rental library and services such as a beauty salon and barbershop. A continuous landscaping program also ensures the community looks green and colorful.
Medical services - both general health and dental services are offered to residents at the newly built medical center. Meanwhile, new facilities and services are currently being planned.
The British stream of the Al Khor International School - AKIS, operates from its purpose-built school building. The building offers some impressive facilities, which include among others, two libraries catering to the younger and older age groups, two computer labs, a variety of specialist rooms, as well as a large sports hall, a four lane, all weather running track and a 25 m swimming pool.
AKIS also offers the Indian stream of education operated by the Dubai-based Varkey Group. The school operates from the Education Center of the Community and offers the 'day boarding facility'. A privately run pre-school also functions in the complex.
Residents enjoy the amenities of three clubs with restaurants, sporting and recreational facilities. Sporting facilities are available for tennis, squash, badminton, TT, snooker, football and swimming. State of the art gym facilities are available in all the clubs. A fourth and much larger club, which will be in operation by the end of this year will provide the additional facility of a purpose-built auditorium. The three parks with play areas catering to different age groups are very popular with the children. Located about 35 km away, is a private beach club for the exclusive benefit of the employees. The nine-hole Golf Club located at Ras Laffan is open for residents and employees of the Qatargas and RasGas.
The clubs offer a variety of short courses such as English, French, Arabic, computer, cookery, arts and crafts, all based on demand.
This is a very vibrant community. Theme nights, social activities and cultural programmes are conducted regularly to bring about greater understanding and respect for the different traditions and cultures that exist between people of this multinational township.
